Book cover design for Lithuanian folk tale "Egle the Queen of Serpents" (liet. Egle Zalciu Karaliene).
This folk tale is well known for almost every Lithuanian since the days when their mother's started telling them stories before the night's sleep. My personal memory of this story was covered of visualisations about the Baltic Sea, beach and multiple brothers - the characters Egle had conversations with.
However, analysing this story on this day I realised that this fairy tale is cruel and the ending part is the death of Egle's lover who was the serpentine.
For this cover design I decided to use rustic finishing. Using relief lino printing I tried to recreate the ways traditional Lithuanian art was made.
